ABSTRACT:
Using various mass spectrometric methods (electron ionization, field desorption, high-resolution operation and metastable-ion spectra), specific chemical reactions and derivatization, the structure of batumic acid was established as 3,5,15-trimethyl-7-methylene-17-oxooctadeca-2,10,12-trienoic acid.

Keywords: batumic acid, chemical degradation, derivatization, mass spectrometry, structure
