ABSTRACT:
This paper investigates the relative output of multiply-charged ions created in a laser-plasma source. It shows that output of ions depends on the mode of the laser. Accounting for multiply-charged ions in the analysis reduces errors in the measurements. This method is applied to the design of a new technique for the quantitative analysis of materials.

Keywords: mass spectrometry, double-focussing, multiply-charged ions
